Abstract
The international security system, as the principal pillar of global order, peace, and stability, has in recent decades encountered profound, multilayered dysfunctions across structural, behavioral, and epistemological dimensions. These dysfunctions have not only weakened the performance of international security institutions and mechanisms but have also eroded the legitimacy and moral credibility of the very concept of security, transforming it into an instrument of domination rather than a foundation for justice and peace. The present study aims to examine the pathology of the international security structure from the perspective of Islamic political jurisprudence, with a particular emphasis on the principle of justice, and to propose jurisprudential and normative strategies for its reform and reconstruction.
The main research question explores which epistemological and behavioral factors have led to the deviation of the global security order from its just and universal objectives, and how Islamic political jurisprudence—grounded in the principles of divine rationality, justice, and human dignity—can provide an alternative paradigm for restoring balance and legitimacy. Methodologically, the research adopts a descriptive–analytical approach, drawing upon authoritative sources of Shi‘i political jurisprudence, Qur’anic and Hadith foundations, statements of religious leaders, and international legal and policy documents relevant to global security governance.
The findings reveal that the existing global security system, built upon materialist anthropology, instrumental rationality, and a power-centered logic, has institutionalized structural inequality and double standards, justified coercive interventions and unjust sanctions, and marginalized ethical and spiritual dimensions of human security. Consequently, security has become a privilege of dominant powers rather than a shared right of all nations.
From the standpoint of Islamic political jurisprudence, the reconstruction of this system requires a comprehensive epistemological reform that reorients the foundations of global security toward justice, human dignity, moral responsibility, and collective participation. The research concludes that genuine, sustainable, and humane security cannot be achieved apart from the integration of justice, spirituality, and ethics into the fabric of international relations. Thus, Islamic political jurisprudence offers a coherent, justice-based theoretical and practical framework for reconstructing the global security order in alignment with divine rationality and universal human dignity.
