This research was conducted to investigate how and why the dominant collective identity of the Kurds in Iran played a role after the Islamic Revolution and the evolution of the objective and subjective ideas of this new identification in the reading of the Kurdish elite. The theoretical framework of the research is based on two axes: what are the identity ideas and explaining the evolution of the collective identity of the Iranian Kurdish people, and measuring the relationship and ratio of the social, political, and cultural dimensions of ethnic identity with national and global identity. Since Castells' theory has a great affinity with the changes and developments in Iranian society and, in addition, it tries to distance itself from essentialist approaches to identity, it has been considered as the main theoretical basis of the research. After examining the views and reviewing the existing empirical sources in an analytical-theoretical approach using multiple methods (interview method, documentary method, and content analysis), the research seeks to answer this question while formulating the main hypothesis: What is the Kurdish elite's reading of why and how the identity ideas of the people of Iranian Kurdistan have evolved after the Islamic Revolution? It seems that in the reading of Kurdish elites, the identity ideas of the people of Kurdistan, influenced by internal and external variables, have changed from a structured nature with an ethnic-centered semantic system in the early days of the revolution to a semi-structured nature involved in discourses of gender, class, religion, and politics, which has a positive and convergent relationship with the socio-cultural dimension of national identity, but a negative and divergent relationship with its political dimension. The findings of this study show that in the reading of Kurdish elites, the variables of benefiting from economic, political, cultural, and social capital, along with the variable of the level of development of ethnic regions, while changing identity ideas, also determine the level of convergence or divergence of the collective identity of the Kurds from the national identity. Therefore, it seems necessary to adjust the points of difference, contradiction, and conflict in the cultural, social, political, and economic domains.
