The purpose of the present research is to explicate Imam Khomeini's political theory based on the doctrinal tenet of Tawḥīd (Monotheism). This task was accomplished by referencing the oldest revolutionary document and political statement issued by him. The selection of the aforementioned document as the departure point for this research is a response to analyses that do not accept Imam Khomeini's political thought as a cohesive whole and have divided it into distinct periods. The preferred method selected for examining such a matter is the descriptive-analytical method. To answer the question of how to perform the aforementioned explication, the methodological approach of Thomas Spragens proposed the most suitable framework. The results indicated that Imam Khomeini, by focusing on the condition of the Iranian people during the Pahlavi era, describes the status of contemporary man as critical and considers his social affairs to be disordered and chaotic due to his distance from the Tawḥīdī (monotheistic) life. Symbols indicative of this crisis in his view manifest in numerous themes such as "dark days," "the domination of foreigners over Muslims," "the suffocation of the spirit of unity and brotherhood among Muslims," "the rule of hedonists over the property, lives, and honor of Muslims," and the like. in identifying the cause of the aforementioned crisis and disorder, he arrives at the sovereignty of Ṭāghūt (tyranny/idolatry) and satanic, non-divine systems that are alienated from Tawḥīd and Tawḥīdī affairs and prevent man's connection with the doctrine of Tawḥīd. The ideal model of the ruling system over society, from his perspective, is the sovereignty of a Tawḥīdī system that seeks to establish a Tawḥīdī society. By connecting to revelation and divine sources, this system seeks to secure man's happiness in this world and the Hereafter. In Imam Khomeini's view, to transition from the existing abnormal situation and attain the desired ideal state, based on solid religious sources including the citation of Verse 76 of Sūrah An‘ām, there is no path other than revolution and Qiyām (uprising) based on divine standards. The genealogy of the prophets' uprisings based on this very foundation also shows that Qiyām lillāh (standing for God) in individual and social dimensions is the only way that guarantees man's felicity in the world and the Hereafter.
