The concept of revolution is defined as a rapid socio-political action aimed at fundamental transformations and the overthrow of the prevailing system, establishing a new order. Revolution encompasses two fundamental components: (1) the confrontation and overthrow of the existing order, and (2) the establishment of a new order that bears no resemblance, in terms of legal frameworks, new institutions, and political actions, to the previous system. The actions of revolutionaries, as a negating force opposing the prevailing order, are conceptualized within the notion of revolution and are structured based on the understanding of forces advocating revolutionary actions. In this context, the present study aims to reinterpret the concept of revolution in the political thought of Islamist movements, which was reproduced by revolutionary activists with an emphasis on Ṣadrian philosophy. The research methodology is descriptive-analytical, conducted through the examination of publications and the reinterpretation of the positions of the Islamist political movement (during the 1960s and 1970s). The central research question is: How are the epistemological foundations of Islamists' thought regarding the concept of revolution structured? The findings indicate that Islamists advocating revolution, by utilizing Islamic concepts and Shi'a teachings, along with a philosophical understanding intertwined with religious epistemological foundations, endeavored to attain an alternative comprehension of the concept of revolution. Their understanding emanated from Islamic history, Islamic philosophy, and the system of religious knowledge. Islamist revolutionaries, foremost among them the political thoughts of Imām Khomeinī, influenced by Ṣadrian philosophy, present an understanding of global transformations and pursue the idea of revolution based on this perception. The philosophical concept of movement and change in the world, from the perspective of proponents of political Islam, enables them to formulate their understanding of revolution without borrowing concepts from other ideologies, thereby shaping a super-action leading to revolution.
