In light of social, historical, and intellectual developments, perspectives on women and their social status have been among the primary concerns of human societies. Investigating the intellectual roots, beliefs, and prevailing perceptions regarding women in any society necessitates an examination of its leading intellectual figures. Likewise, understanding contemporary Iranian society's view of women requires tracing its intellectual origins to provide a comprehensive picture. The political and social status of women in contemporary Iran stems from these perceptions and beliefs. Accordingly, this study seeks to answer the question: How has the status of women been represented in Iranshahri thought and Islamic philosophy? When discussing the status of women in these intellectual traditions, the reference is to their "gender"; evidently, any interpretation and understanding of female gender significantly impact their political and social position according to Iranshahri and Islamic scholars, consequently influencing the actual status of women in society. Adopting an interpretive approach, this study explores the prevailing understanding of women in these two philosophical traditions by focusing on primary texts and sources through a library-based method. The findings indicate that women in both Iranshahri thought and Islamic philosophy hold relatively similar positions, characterized by the denial of significant political and social status. The patriarchal structure of society during the Iranshahri period and the emphasis on women's roles primarily through their gender functions in Islamic philosophy suggest that women in these two intellectual traditions lacked substantial political and social standing. Historically, although some women in ancient Iran attained political and administrative positions, they generally—especially during the Sassanian era—lacked notable political and social status. Analyzing the views of major Islamic philosophers across different periods reveals that Islamic philosophy does not endorse an equal political and social status for women compared to men.
